keep the light on!

Since 1897, Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse has stood as a beacon of safety, a symbol of our community’s resilient maritime heritage, and a scenic destination for both locals and visitors to Maine. It is a beloved symbol of the South Portland region.

Our mission as the Spring Point Ledge Light Trust is to maintain the structure of the tower and provide education and public access when possible. Preserving a historic landmark on the coast of Maine is an honor. But the brutal salt air, freeze-thaw cycles and intense winter storms mean preservation is a constant, expensive battle.

Our beloved lighthouse needs help! Our most immediate need: the canopy must be replaced, there are cracks in the tower, the deck steel structure and rusted iron need repairs, and masonry work is needed. Also, we are fixing the balcony and lantern house and the railing system. All this work is being led by volunteer Trustees of the Spring Point Ledge Light Trust and a Development Committee that is seeking support to cover costs of an engineering assessment, permitting, general contract oversight, and supplies, along with renovation.

Our goal is to raise $1,000,000 to ensure the structural integrity of the tower is saved. As we work to secure grants to help with these essential projects, we’re also looking for support from the community. Please consider becoming a supporter for this preservation effort in any way you can.

Thank you!
