The lighthouse is open for guided tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays (and occasional Saturdays) from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. starting May 27th for the 2023 season. We may cancel public tours due to poor weather or if we do not have enough docents to adequately and safely staff the lighthouse. Our gift shop is open whenever the lighthouse is open for tours. We feature Maine-made gifts, books, postcards, and crafts.  Tickets to tour the lighthouse can also be purchased at the gift shop. Be sure to stop in!

Private tours are by request only and are subject to the availability of our volunteers. The cost is $150 for groups of up to 10 people. Contact us to inquire about the availability for the date and time you would like to visit. We will respond to your requests as quickly as possible. Directions

From downtown Portland, follow Highway 77 across the Casco Bay bridge. Continue on Broadway until reaching the stop sign at the entrance to Spring Point Marina. Turn right on Benjamin W Pickett Street. Continue to the end and turn left on Fort Road. Proceed through the campus of Southern Maine Community College until reaching the parking area on the waterfront. The lighthouse will be to your right. Please use caution and observe the speed limit when driving on the campus.

Parking

Parking closest to the lighthouse is in the circle at the end of Fort Road. The gift shop & ticket booth are located next to building 32. The path from the parking lot along this building and around the inside of the fort is level and wheelchair accessible with many good photo ops along the way.

It is okay to park in any of the adjoining student lots. Please do not park on the grass or in fire lanes. Click on the map to open the larger map of the entire campus and building labels.

[…] Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse, a 54-foot-tall brick tower built on a cast-iron cylindrical caisson in 1897, was encircled with granite blocks in the 1930s to protect it from ice damage. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built the 900-foot, 50,000-ton breakwater connecting the light to the Fort Preble shoreline in 1951. It is the only caisson-style (or sparkplug) lighthouse accessible by land. In season, you can actually enter the lighthouse for $5. […]
